The Isle of Wight Ferry

Clearly they've changed the paint scheme since that joke was first told.

The Isle of Wight Ferry is something of an English institution linking the holiday island with points on the mainland. In fact there are several this one is the Lymington-Yarmouth ferry at the western end of the Solent.

To the east Wight Link ferries from Portsmouth land Ryde and Fishbourne, plus there's still a hovercraft service from Southsea to Ryde. In the central Solent Red Funnel connects Southampton and Cowes with a car ferry and a fast cat service

One urban myth suggests that it's the most expensive ferry journey on a mile per mile basis, who knows

Q: What's white and comes out of Cowes in waves?
A: The Duke of Edinburgh's yacht.

Wrong ferry, that's a White Link, it dosen't go to Cowes. The Red Funnel is the brown & black one which does, from Southampton not Portsmouth.

We want to create a collection of 1001 Boats.

1001 Boats which inspire, boats which fascinate, boats which captured the imagination of a small boy, boats which carry grown men to adventure, boats which are too important to be forgotten, boats which are beautiful, boats which are significant.

Perhaps not 1001 Boats which you really need to “see before you die,” which was the inspiration for this blog, but your favourite boats, boats which are important to you.

They can be boats you have built, boats you have sailed, or boats which you just plain admire.
